Plenary Speaker

DR. SAM MCBRIDE (B.A. Southern Adventist University; M.A. La Sierra University; Ph.D. University of California, Riverside). Sam McBride has taught 20th-Century Literature and American Literature at La Sierra University since 2007. His first book, Women Among the Inklings (co-authored with Candice Frederick in 2001), was a feminist examination of the lives and writings of C. S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Charles Williams. His 2020 book, Tolkien's Cosmology, examined the mass of writings published after Tolkien's death to argue for coherent overarching cosmological structure linked to his published Middle-earth writings. HIs current project, tentatively titled C. S. Lewis and the Ugly Woman, uncovers a preoccupation with female ugliness in Lewis's writings.

In addition to teaching courses, Sam has also 'entered the dark side,' taking on various administrative roles at La Sierra (such as Dean and Associate Provost). He's proud to be a very boring person.
